Brave women defend themselves against attack. The shadows cast by overlapping sponges evoke memory. Variations of red are achieved with the dye of boiled onionskins and exposure to the natural elements.

A bird clasping a fish in its bill is a typical motif of uncertain meaning in medieval Armenian manuscripts. The old rusted nails mimic the posting of a message as well as corrosion.

The installation view shows EXPUNGE on exhibit at Galatea Fine Arts in Boston. The sponges are configured and reconfigured as a nod to the natural and historical flux and stasis in the region.
